Pitman Arm Puller Kits

20388 pitman arm puller and spreader kit

This four-tool set combines three screw-operated pullers with a pitman arm spreader for steering service. It covers different arm shapes and retaining arrangements, including the listed Sheppard M100 and M110 applications and medium-duty nut-retained arms. Select the tool by the steering gearbox and arm design, then check that it can seat fully in the available space.

Pulling an arm and opening a split arm

The puller bodies engage behind the pitman arm while a central forcing screw bears against the sector shaft to separate the arm. The spreader has two link arms with locating pins and a central wedge. It is intended for a compatible split arm with a through-bolt opening, where the wedge opens the clamp portion enough for removal. These tools address different retaining arrangements; identify yours before choosing a tool.

Check the gearbox, arm and working clearance

The listed truck applications include selected Ram 3500/5500 and Chevrolet 3500/5500 configurations. A truck badge or vehicle class does not establish fit: confirm the steering-box model, retaining method, arm width, shaft contact point and clearance around the arm. The pictured opening widths are dimensional references, not a rated pulling capacity or a guarantee of fit for every truck in those ranges.

Use the steering-box service information to release the arm's retainer before applying force and to protect the end of the sector shaft. Confirm the supplied tool's operating instructions and permitted drive method. Socket size, impact-tool approval and maximum forcing torque are not established for this set. No vehicle-specific reinstall torque or carrying case is specified.
