Trailer Wiring Socket

Two trailer outlets in one socket assembly

This replacement trailer socket has a 7-blade RV outlet and a separate 4-flat outlet in the same black housing. Each outlet has a spring-loaded cover. The supplied black metal bracket holds the socket at the rear towing connection. The package shown contains one socket assembly and one bracket; a separate cable harness or pigtail is not shown.

Match both sides of the connection

The circular trailer outlet uses the 7-blade RV contact arrangement. Compare the actual contacts with your trailer plug, since the outer housing shape alone does not identify the connector type. The adjacent 4-flat outlet provides the smaller four-contact connection shown in the photos.

On the truck side, check the rear connector's keying, retaining feature and terminal layout against the original socket. Also compare the bracket opening and mounting-hole spacing. These dimensions are not specified, and the listed year range does not confirm fit for every towing package or modified wiring system. The replacement references are matching aids and do not identify this part as Ford or Dorman manufacture.

Check the trailer circuits after installation

The pictured 7-way diagram identifies tail lights, left and right turn signals, ground, reverse, auxiliary power and the trailer brake connection. Verify the circuit assignments against your truck and trailer wiring before use. A socket replacement does not add a brake controller or activate circuits missing from the vehicle's wiring.

Ford's towing guidance explains that electronically controlled trailer brakes need a controlling device and wiring for electrical power. After fitting the socket, test the lighting and any connected brake or auxiliary circuits with the appropriate tester. Loose mounting fasteners are not confirmed as included.
