Check the installed fork and plug
The listed Harley-Davidson applications are FL 1948-1984, FX 1980-1986, FLST 1986-2017 and FLT 1979-up. Confirm the exact model, year, installed fork assembly and plug head before ordering, particularly on motorcycles with replacement forks or caps.
A 41 mm or 49 mm fork tube diameter alone does not identify the cap interface. This socket fits over an external plug head; a cap with an internal hex recess needs a matching Allen driver. Later Touring forks can use that different cap style, so the FLT listing does not establish a fit for every later fork.
Before removing a fork plug
Follow the service manual for the motorcycle and installed fork. Secure the motorcycle or removed fork assembly as the procedure requires, wear eye protection and relieve spring preload before removing a cap or plug. Keep control of the plug as the final thread disengages because residual spring pressure can eject it. Use the specified spring control tools and tightening torque for that fork; the socket alone does not control the spring.
